Hi all, since sunday, websites have been popping up absolutely everywhere on my computer. i read my friends page on live journal like normal, then these pages kept popping up with the word CId at the top then the name of the site, whether it be amazon, or sometimes it's taken me to all kinds of sites and i can't get rid of them. i did an adaware, but that hasn't solved it as they still come. Does anyone think it's something to do with lj that brought them up? or another programme on my computer? i installed bear share recently. any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you used other anti-spyware programs? they may find something

no only used adaware as i was recommended that one and it's easy to use.

i would try other programs, spybot for example. it is really good with scripts, and usually finds stuff ad-aware doesn't

Also AVG has a good antivirus program, and it sounds like you have a virus.

Virus - bareshare same thing.
You will need to run all of the below in safemode, which means you'll need sited help:
1: Do anther addaware scan having downloaded the latist updates before going into safemode.
2: Run a spybot scan, again having downloaded all the updates before safemode.
3: Insert your windows xp cd and close what ever comes up.
In run, type (With out the quoats)) "sfc /scannow" and press enter.
This might take some time.
If the 2 spyware programs can't remove something that they find, make a note of the infections name and post it here.
hth.

We have the same problem on our desktop Kay. Only thing to do is to 'bleach' your machine, using a program like Ccleaner, also known as Regcure. I'm forever telling mum that machine needs bleaching, but will, she, listen? Er, no. I also tried running Spybot and adaware to get rid of the pop-ups and neither has any effect on them. I'd download Ccleaner from www.Ccleaner.com and get your mum to help you run it and hopefully that'll get rid of the pop-ups.

It really sounds like adaware and spybot won't do a thing until youAt until you clean it with an antivirus program.

Pop up ads are your least worries.

CID has been an annoying trhead for many... so i guess i should research more information on it as more people seem to have been finding these all over the place. Some online forums do not even have the right solutions for the help... the rule of thumb though is not to enter anything that tells you you can win somehting free or an unknown unpopular program that often claims to be an anti-virus. Also, do not download any screen savers or anything from the net. Try to get temporary e-mail addresses (tempinbox.com, mailinator.com) instead of using your own e-mail to sign up for things like when you are going to buy over the net or such. Just some general tips to avoid this happening in the future.

For some reason, I don't think this has a thing to do with viruses. Install Google toolbar. Uninstall, uninstall, uninstall bearshare now!!!!! Run spyware blaster. Run ccleaner. Get popup and ad protection. Use Mozila Firefox.

I agree with everything in the last post except the fire fox idea. Just personal preference there.

Actually, at this moment, I'm sitting at the very PC where I was having problems with those CiD pop ups, and I haven't had a single one this evening while I've been on here. Maybe it is just because I've installed a load of new Mcafee updates and things, but as I recall, that didn't work last time I was on the PC, or maybe, while I've been away at College, my mum's run Winashampoo and that dealt with the pop ups. Strange they should be really pissing me off one minute and gone the next minute though, isn't it?

Jen.

Yes, but, a good strange. Let us know if they re-appear.

a really good strange indeed... wonder what could be the elimination of it.I personally do not preffer using the paid anti-viruses.

I had several viruses a few weeks ago, which have now been cleared and for a while, they stopped popping up but have again recently started. was considering uninstalling bear share to see what happens there.
